After the works were rebuilt, a new jetty and coal handling plant were added in 1952.

The fully automated coal handling plant can handle up to 20 million tons of coal imports per annum.

This revamped the process of supply of raw materials, new oxygen plant, improved techniques in blast furnaces, selling of dolomite plant, cast house, slag granulation plant, supply of raw materials sintering plants and coal handling plants among others.

As of 15 September 2011, BHEL has also awarded part of the work to Tecpro Systems to undertake Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply, Fabrication, Erection, Testing & Commissioning of the Ore Handling Plant Project and Coal Handling Plant Project of Raw Material Handling System.

Major equipment like boiler, turbine, auxiliaries like BFP, CEP, PA fans, bowl mills etc . were supplied by BHEL . In coal handling plant, major equipment like primary and secondary crusher were supplied by TRF and wagon tippler was supplied by Heavy Engineering Corporation ( HEC ).
