The mechanism by which these geomagnetically induced currents are generated is entirely different from the gamma ray induced pulse produced by Compton electrons.
2.
A photoelectron or Compton electron generates electrons and holes which induce image charges of opposite signs on the detector electrodes when a signal is produced.
3.
Within the range of gamma ray deposition, simple laws no longer hold as the air is Compton electrons from air molecules, together with other complex phenomena.
4.
Because the outward traveling gamma pulse is propagating at the speed of light, the synchrotron radiation of the Compton electrons adds coherently, leading to a radiated electromagnetic signal.
5.
It gives a direct current signal proportional to the incident flux of neutrons, due to production of negative beta particles or Compton electrons in the heart of the device.
6.
The distribution arises because of primary gamma rays undergoing Compton scattering within the crystal : Depending on the scattering angle, the Compton electrons have different energies and hence produce pulses in different energy channels.
7.
However, many authors speak of " gamma LET " anyway, where they are actually referring to the LET of the secondary electrons, i . e ., mainly Compton electrons, produced by the gamma radiation.
