Insects are found everywhere on the earth , from the seashore to the bleak slopes of the highest mountains , in arid steppes and deserts , in dense and humid forests , grasslands , kitchen gardens , orchards , fields , in lakes , ponds , marshes , rivers , streams , springs and wells , in caves , in the soil , on snowfields and glaciers on high mountains , in the cold arctic and antarctic regions , inside human dwellings , kitchen , office , school , college , laboratory , store , factory , library , museum , on or inside plants and the bodies of man and various other animals . कीट समुद्रतट से लेकर सबसे ऊंचे पहाड़ों की उजाड़ ढलानों तक शुष्क स्टेपों और रेगिस्तानों , घने और नम जंगलो , घासस्थलों , गृह-वाटिकाओं , फलोद्यानों , खेतों , झीलों , तालाबों , कच्छों , नदियों , नालों , झरनों और कुओं , गुफाओं , मिट्टी में , ऊंचे ऊंचे पर्वतों के बर्फीले मैदानों और हिमनदों ( ग़्लेशियर ) पर , ठंडे उत्तरध्रुवीय और दक्षिणध्रुवीय प्रदेशों में , मानव के आवासों , रसाईघर , दफ्तर , स्कूल , कॉलेज , प्रयोगशाला , भंडारघर , फैक़्ट्री , पुस्तकालय , संग्रहालय के भीतर , पौधों और मनुष्य तथा विभिन्न पशुओं के शरीरों के अंदर तथा ऊपर यानी पृथ्वी पर सब जगह पाए जाते हैं .
