As for solar panels, any power would be converted to AC before being pushed into the grid, and again the electronic circuit would have to provide a sinusoidal voltage at a leading phase angle.

If your ( mechanical ) generator is in synch with the grid, then you put more power to it so that it wants to turn a bit faster, you create a leading phase angle and you push power to the grid.
