Other scattered evidence indicates that an Islamic revival is taking place, despite the absence of mosques and the persistence of Soviet antireligious propaganda. अभी भी विदेशियों से शासित हैं . सोवियत लोगों ने एक सीमा से आगे बढकर यह प्रयास किया कि स्वयं को औपनिवेशिक न दिखायें और इन प्रयासों का कुछ लाभ स्थानीय जनता को मिला भी। परंतु मोस्को इस विरोधाभास को झुठला नहीं सकता कि राष्ट्र राज्य के इस वर्तमान युग में मध्य एशिया और काकेसस उन कुछ राज्यों में शामिल है जिस पर कि अब भी बाहरी लोगों का शासन है। पिछली शताब्दी में इन क्षेत्रों में बहुत कुछ परिवर्तन नहीं हुआ है परंतु अब यह स्थिति बदलने वाली है। मुस्लिम अब अलग थलग नहीं रह गये हैं। मूल यूरोपियन लोगों के मुकाबले कहीं अधिक जनसंख्या दर के चलते मुस्लिम जनसंख्या बडी तेजी से बढ रही है और इस शताब्दी के अंत तक यह 10 करोड हो सकती है। यहाँ तक कि भारी रूसी कजाक क्षेत्र में भी सोवियत आँकडे मुस्लिम पक्ष में करवट बदलते नजर आ रहे हैं। अन्य छुटपुट आँकडे भी प्रदर्शित करते हैं कि इस्लामी पुनरुत्थान हो रहा है और यह सब मस्जिदों के अभाव और सोवियत मजहबविरोधी प्रचार के बाद भी हो रहा है।
