Commenting on the fact that he “ never heard anyone singing in the streets since I have been here , ” he noted in his Diary : ” The hearts of these people arc not resonant like a waterfall , but silent like a lake . उन्होंने इस बात का अपनी डायरी में उल्लेख करते हुए टिप्पणी की है , ? मैं जब से यहां आया हूं मैंने किसी को सड़क पर गाते नहीं सुना . ? इन लोगों का हृदय झरने की तरह स्पंदित नहीं है बल्कि झील की तरह प्रशांत है .

Although the Russian Revolution in 1917 brought changes, it did not alter the relative subservience of these Asian peoples to the Russians who had colonized them in the 19th century when India and other parts of the region were falling under British or French rule. यद्यपि 1917 में हुई रूसी क्रांति से परिवर्तन तो आया परंतु एशिया के इन लोगों का रूसियों के मुकाबले सापेक्षिक कमतर होने की भावना कम नहीं हो सकी जब 19वीं शताब्दी में भारत व क्षेत्र के अन्य भागों पर ब्रिटेन या फ्रांस ने अपना उपनिवेश बनाया परंतु इसे रूस से अपना उपनिवेश बनाया।

Post-1917 and the Bolshevik Revolution, however, concessions failed to mollify the new kind of ideologically-driven enemy - Hitler in the 1930s, Brezhnev in the 1970s, Arafat and Kim Jong-Il in the 1990s, and now, Khamene'i and Ahmadinejad. These ideologues exploit concessions and deceitfully offer a quid pro quo that they do not intend to fulfill. Harboring aspirations to global hegemony, they cannot be appeased. Concessions to them truly amount to feeding the crocodile. 1917 के पश्चात तथा बोल्शेविक क्रांति के पश्चात इन राहतों के चलते विचारधारा से प्रभावित नये तरीके के शत्रु संतुष्ट नहीं हुए और 1930 में हिटलर , 1970 में ब्रेझनेव, 1990 में अराफात और किम जांग II और अब खोमैनी और अहमदीनेजाद। ये विचारक राहत का शोषण करते हैं और चतुराईपूर्वक बदले में ऐसी शर्त रखते हैं जिसे वे पूर्ण नहीं करना चाहते। विश्व पर नियंत्रण स्थापित करने की आकाँक्षा रखने वाले इन लोगों का तुष्टीकरण नहीं किया जा सकता। इन्हें राहत देने का सही मायने में अर्थ मगरमच्छ को पालना है।
