As he watched the clouds thicken in the sky , he was reminded of his predecessor Kalidasa who on such aday as this had written his great poem which has made immortal the love of all lovers throughout the ages whom distance has parted from their sweethearts . उन्होंने देखा कि सारा आकाश सघन बादलों से आच्छऋ है , और वे अपने पूर्ववर्ती कवि कालिदास की स्मृति में खो जाते हैं , ऋन्होंने ठीक ऐसे ही किसी दिन अपने महान छंदों की रचना की थी , ऋसने कि युर्गयुगांतर के उन समस्त प्रेमियों के प्रेम को अमर बना दाय , ऋन्हें दूरी ने अपनी प्रेयसियों से अलग कर दिया था .

The poem is a new Meghaduta in honour of the old and shows that Rabindranath was now confident enough of his genius to claim kinshipwith the greatest classical poet of his country-like Dante paying homage to Virgil . प्राचीन की संवर्धना में लिखित यह कविता एक नवीन मेघदूत थी और यह जताती है कि रवीन्द्रनाथ में इतना आत्मविश्वास आ चुका था कि वे अपनी प्रतिभा को अपने देश के महानतम और कालजयी कवि मनीषा ( कालिदास ) के साथ अपने सहज रक्त संबंध का दावा कर सकें- जैसा कि दान्ते ने वर्जिल के प्रति अपनी भावांजलि व्यक्त करते हुए किया था .
