Laxman accompanied his elder brother, Rama into the forest, whereas Bharat ruled Ayodhya in Rama's absence, by keeping his footwear on the throne. जहाँ बड़े भाई के प्रेम के कारण लक्ष्मण उनके साथ वन चले जाते हैं वहीं भरत अयोध्या की राज गद्दी पर बड़े भाई का अधिकार होने के कारण स्वयं न बैठ कर राम की पादुका को प्रतिष्ठित कर देते हैं।
