The chief characteristics of a good elephant are medium height , broad chest , wrinkled skin as that of a crocodile , massive head , broad forehead , large ears , bright eyes free from excessive flow of tears . अच्छे हाथी की मुख़्य विशिष्टताएं हैं : मध्यम ऊंचाई , चौड़ी छाती , मगरमच्छ की चमड़ी जैसी झुर्रीदार चमड़ी , बड़ा सिर , चौड़ा माथा , लम्बे कान तथा ऐसी आंखें जिनसे बहुत अधिक आंसू न निकलते रहें .

After Hitler, the policy of appeasing dictators - ridiculed by Winston Churchill as feeding a crocodile, hoping it will eat one last - appeared to be permanently discredited. Yet the policy has enjoyed some successes and remains a live temptation today in dealing with the Islamic Republic of Iran. ईरान का तुष्टीकरण हिटलर के उपरांत तानाशाहों का तुष्टीकरण करने की नीति की विंस्टन चर्चिल ने खिल्ली उडाई थी और इसे मगरमच्छ को पालने के बराबर माना था वह भी आशा के साथ कि एक दिन वह वह हमें ही खा जायेगा, वैसे यह नीति अब विश्वसनीय नहीं रह गयी है। फिर भी तानाशाहों के तुष्टीकरण की इस नीति को सफलता भी मिली है और आज भी इस्लामी गणतंत्र ईरान के साथ कार्य व्यवहार में इस नीति के पालन की जिज्ञासा दिखती है।

Post-1917 and the Bolshevik Revolution, however, concessions failed to mollify the new kind of ideologically-driven enemy - Hitler in the 1930s, Brezhnev in the 1970s, Arafat and Kim Jong-Il in the 1990s, and now, Khamene'i and Ahmadinejad. These ideologues exploit concessions and deceitfully offer a quid pro quo that they do not intend to fulfill. Harboring aspirations to global hegemony, they cannot be appeased. Concessions to them truly amount to feeding the crocodile. 1917 के पश्चात तथा बोल्शेविक क्रांति के पश्चात इन राहतों के चलते विचारधारा से प्रभावित नये तरीके के शत्रु संतुष्ट नहीं हुए और 1930 में हिटलर , 1970 में ब्रेझनेव, 1990 में अराफात और किम जांग II और अब खोमैनी और अहमदीनेजाद। ये विचारक राहत का शोषण करते हैं और चतुराईपूर्वक बदले में ऐसी शर्त रखते हैं जिसे वे पूर्ण नहीं करना चाहते। विश्व पर नियंत्रण स्थापित करने की आकाँक्षा रखने वाले इन लोगों का तुष्टीकरण नहीं किया जा सकता। इन्हें राहत देने का सही मायने में अर्थ मगरमच्छ को पालना है।
