The colour black is considered inauspicious for these and hence is not used . व्रत चित्रलेखन में काली मिट्टी का प्रयोग अशुभ माना जाता है .

If he fasts in Jyaishtha , he will be a favourite of the women . यदि वह ज़्येष्ठ मास में व्रत रखेगा तो स्त्रियां उस पर मोहित होंगी .

Fasting is with the Hindus voluntary and supererogatory . व्रत रखना हिन्दुओं के लिए स्वैच्छिक तो है ही , कर्तव्यातिरिक़्त भी होता है .

On the third day of Magha there is fasting for the women , not for the men . माघ का तीसरा दिन पुरुषों के लिए नहीं , स्त्रियों के लिए व्रत रखने का दिन है .

If he fasts in Bhadrapada , he obtains wealth and valour , riches and cattle . यदि वह भाद्रपद में व्रत रखेगा तो उसे धन , शौर्य , संपत्ति और पशुधन प्राप्त होगा .

If he fasts in Asvayuja ; he will always be victorious over his enemies . यदि वह आश्वयुज में व्रत रखता है तो वह सर्वदा अपने शत्रुओं पर विजय प्राप्त करेगा .

If he fasts in Margasirsha , he will be born in the most beautiful and fertile country . यदि वह मार्गशीर्ष में व्रत रखेगा तो वह अत्यंत सुंदर तथा उर्वर देश में जन्म लेगा .

He fasts a day and he breaks fast a day , but he is never allowed to eat meat . वह एक दिन व्रत रखता है और दूसरे दिन भोजन करता है , परंतु उसके लिए मांस-भक्षण वर्जित है .

Thereupon the sage went off to Mahadeva , praying , praising , and fasting devoutly . उसके बाद ऋषि महादेव के पास गया और उनकी आराधन की , स्तुति की और भक्तिपूर्वक व्रत रखे .
