Gandhi returned to India on 19 December , 1914 and after an interrupted stay in Santiniketan in February-March , 1915 , collected his companions of Phoenix ' and established the Satyagraha Ashram in Ahmedabad city on 25 May , 1915 . 19 दिसंबर 1914 को गांधी वापिस भारत लौटे और फरवरी-मार्च 1915 के एक संक्षिप्त और अवररूद्ध प्रवास के उपरांत उन्होंने ' फीनिवस ' के अपने साथियों के साथ 25 मई 1915 को अहमदाबाद शहर में सत्याग्रह आश्रम की स्थापना की .

On the 3rd July when Subhas Chandra himself was to lead a band of volunteers for offering satyagraha at the Hollwel monument , he was taken into custody under the Defence of India Rules and lodged in . the Presidency Jail in Calcutta . जुलाई के पहले हफ्ते में जिस रोज सुभाष चन्द्र स्वयंसेवकों के एक जत्थे की अगुआई करते हुए हालवेट स्तंभ के गिर्द सत्याग्रह शुरू करनेवाले थे , उन्हें भारत रक्षा कानून ( डिफेंस आफ इंडिया रूल्स ) के तहत गिरफ्तार करके कलकत्ता की प्रेजीडेंसी जेल में डाल दिया गया .

It would be enough to state here that it was not till the swadeshi movement gained a nation-wide momentum and the First World War built up pressures that there was a distinct reversal of the government policies in favour of local manufacturingtraditional and modern . यहां इतना ही कहना काफी होगा कि यह तब तक नहीं हुआ जब तक स्वदेशी सत्याग्रह ने राष्ट्रव्यापी आंदोलन का रूप धारण नहीं कर लिया और प्रथम विश्वयुद्ध का दबाव नहीं पड़ा और तब सरकारी नीतियों के देशी उत्पादन को पारंपरिक और आधुनिक के पक्ष में झुकना पड़ा .

While the Swarjists were forging ahead in the Calcutta Corporation and successfully carrying out their obstructive tactics in the Bengal Council and the Indian Legislative Assembly , Deshbandhu called upon the Bengal Congress Committee , of which Subhas was the General Secretary , to organise and launch a Satyagraha movement to clean up and democratise the Tarakeswara temple in the Hooghly district of Bengal . स्वराजवादी जब इस प्रकार कलकत्ता नगर निगम में आगे बढ़ रहे थे और बंगाल कौंसिल तथा इंडियन लेजिस्लेटिव असेंबली में अपनी अवरोधक समरनीति को सफलतापूर्वक अंजाम दे रहे थे , तभी देशबन्धु ने बंगाल कांग्रेस कमेटी का-जिसके महासचिव सुभाष थे-हुगली जिले के तारकेश्वर मंदिर के शोधन और लोकतंत्रीकरण के लिए सत्याग्रह आंदोलन छेड़ने का आह्नान किया .
