Those memories of medieval glory remain not just alive but central to believers' confidence in Islam and in themselves as Muslims. इस्लाम चौदह सौ वर्ष पुराना एक अरब से अधिक आस्थावानों का मजहब है जिसमें कि हिंसक जिहादी से शांत सूफी तक सभी आते हैं । मुसलमानों ने 600 से 1200 शताब्दी के मध्य उल्लेखनीय सैन्य, आर्थिक और सांस्कृतिक सफलता प्राप्त की । उस काल में मुस्लिम होने का अर्थ था एक विजयी टीम का सदस्य होना यह ऐसा तथ्य था जिसने कि मुसलमानों को इस बात के लिये प्रेरित किया कि वे अपनी आस्था को भौतिक सफलता के साथ जोडें। मध्य काल के उस गौरव की स्मृतियाँ न केवल जीवित हैं वरन इस्लाम और मुस्लिम की आस्था और विश्वास का एक कारण हैं।
