Since 1969 the Institute requires every college applicant to achieve a minimum pass mark at an academic aptitude test ( " Prueba de Aptitud Acad�mica, PAA " ) delivered by The College Board, a not-for-profit examination board in the United States.

Since its creation, the school requires every applicant to achieve a minimum pass mark at its own academic aptitude test for postgraduate studies ( " Prueba de Admisi�n a Estudios de Posgrado, PAEP " ) : an instrument designed and maintained by academics of the institute ( with some guidance provided by the technical director of The College Board office in Puerto Rico ).

The school has the reputation of being an elite school when it comes to education and sports ( their men's basketball team has won 34 national titles as well as in track and field and soccer ) and its students have received the highest scores in the Learning and Academic Aptitude Test ( PAES for its initials in Spanish ) since the test's first application in 1997.
