Such schemas, admittedly, sound like cloud-cuckoo land at present. But when Palestinian Arabs finally undergo a change of heart, when they accept Israel's existence and renounce the use of force against it, all sorts of positive developments can take place to sweep aside today's seemingly intractable issues. फिलीस्तीनी प्रभुसत्ता - एक बार फिलीस्तीनी अरब सही अर्थों में यहूदी उपस्थिति को स्वीकार कर लें तो राज्य क्षेत्र में रहने वाले यहूदी फिलीस्तीनी शासन में रह सकते हैं । ऐसी योजनायें तो अभी केवल सैद्धान्तिक आदर्श ही लगती है परन्तु यदि फिलीस्तीनी अरबवासियों के हृदय में अन्तिम रुप से परिवर्तन होगा और वे इजरायल के अस्तित्व को स्वीकार कर हिंसा का परित्याग कर देंगें तो सकारात्मक परिणाम होगें और आज कठिन से दिखने वाले मुद्दे एक ओर चले जायेंगे

Socially, Iran is in better shape than Algeria. इरान में 1979 से इस्लामवादियों का शासन चल रहा है .इस शासन काल के कारण कट्टरपंथी इस्लाम से लोगों का मोह समाप्त हो रहा है और यह भावना अब धार्मिक पद सोपान के ऊपरी स्तर तक पहुँच चुकी है. “टाइम”पत्रिका ने अभी हाल में छापा कि एक इरानी नवयुवक ने अपने समाज को एक पीड़ादायक अनुभव बताया .इसकी व्याख्या करते हुए उसने कहा कि वहाँ के नवयुवकों का व्यवहार ऐसा है मानों इस्लामिक गणराज्य का अस्तित्व ही नहीं है .गेरेच के शब्दों में “शाह के पतन के 26 वर्षों बाद इरान की जिहादी संस्कृति पूरी तरह समाप्त हो चुकी है ”.इस्लामवाद स्वयं इस मर्ज की दवा बन चुका है .

Don't bother fighting your reputation - you can't win . My reputation is of having been ignored before September 11, 2001 (an example, here ). Admittedly, it makes for a good story - a voice in the wilderness, a prophet unheeded - but it happens not to be true. Yes, my media profile increased many-fold post-9/11, but I did head a think tank before then, write a weekly column, appear regularly on television and radio, and lecture around the country. That's now down the memory hole and there is nothing I can do to shake the perception that life for me began when the planes struck. अपनी प्रतिष्ठा के गिरने की चिंता न करें आप विजयी नहीं हो सकते। 11 सितम्बर 2001 से पूर्व मेरी प्रतिष्ठा की अवहेलना की गयी ( एक उदाहरण यहाँ here )। इसे स्वीकार करने में कोई परहेज नहीं है कि यह एक अच्छी कहानी है कि एक आवाज जो अलग थलग रही, एक पैगम्बर को नहीं सुना गया परन्तु यह सत्य हुआ। यह सही है कि 11सितम्बर के पश्चात मेरा मीडिया प्रोफाइल कई गुना बढ गया परंतु यह भी सत्य है कि इससे पूर्व भी मैं एक थिंक टैंक चला रहा था , साप्ताहिक स्तम्भ लिख रहा था , नियमित रूप से टेलीविजन और रेडियो पर आता था और देश भर में व्याख्यान देता था। परंतु यह सभी कुछ स्मरण में चला गया है और इस अवधारणा को समाप्त करने के लिये मैं कुछ नहीं कर सकता कि मेरा जीवन तब आरम्भ हुआ जब विमान टकराया।

US Secretary of State Colin Powell responded by dismissing such a transfer as “totally unrealistic.” The US plan is for the Iraqis to take control in a matter of years, not months. यदि यह स्वीकार किया जाये तो यह सुझाव फ्रांस की सरकारी नीति के अनुकूल है जैसा कि फ्रांस के राष्ट्रपति जैक्स शिराक ने कहा है, “ जब तक जितना शीघ्र सम्भव हो इराकियों को सम्प्रभुता नहीं सौंपी जाती समस्या का सटीक समाधान नहीं निकल सकता ”। यह कहते हुये उन्होंने 6 से 9 महीनों के बीच सत्ता का अन्तरण करने का सुझाव दिया। अमेरिका के राज्य सचिव कोलिन पावेल ने ऐसे किसी भी सत्ता हस्तान्तरण को अस्वाभाविक कहकर निरस्त कर दिया। अमेरिका की योजना में इराकियों के हाथ में नियन्त्रण देना महीनों में नहीं वर्षों में सम्भव है। परन्तु गठबन्धन और फ्रांसीसी लोगों के प्रति शत्रु भाव रखने वाले ही गतिपूर्वक संक्रमण के इच्छुक नहीं हैं वरन् जो इराकी गठबन्धन के साथ सहयोग कर रहे हैं चाहे उनका तेहरान, रियाद, सी.आई.ए या रक्षा विभाग के साथ अच्छा सम्बन्ध हो वे भी इसके इच्छुक हैं।

She could have maintained her months-old silence, which was serving her well. But the KGIA principal also has a long history of speaking out about politics , and apparently she could not resist the opportunity to defend the shirts , telling the New York Post that the word intifada “basically means ‘shaking off.' That is the root word if you look it up in Arabic. I understand it is developing a negative connotation due to the uprising in the Palestinian-Israeli areas. I don't believe the intention is to have any of that kind of [violence] in New York City. I think it's pretty much an opportunity for girls to express that they are part of New York City society ... and shaking off oppression.” फिलीस्तीनी पद्धति का यह आह्वान अलमोन्टेसर के सम्पर्क के लिए पीड़ादायक रहा। महींनो तक उन्होंने चुप्पी साधी। परन्तु खलील जिव्रान अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय अकादमी की प्राचार्या राजनीति पर खुलकर बोलती हैं और टी-शर्ट के बचाव में आने से स्वयं को रोक न सकीं। न्यूयार्क पोस्ट में उन्होंने कहा कि “ मूलरूप में इन्तिफादा का अर्थ हटाना होता है। और यदि आप अरबी में देखें तो यही मूल शब्द है। फिलीस्तीनी - इजरायली क्षेत्र की गतिविधियों के कारण इसके नकारात्मक अर्थ को समझ सकती हूँ। मुझे नहीं लगता कि न्यूयार्क सिटी में किसी भी प्रकार की हिंसा का कोई आशय है। मुझे लगता है कि यह लडकियों के लिए स्वयं को अभिव्यक्त करने का अवसर था कि वे न्यूयार्क के समाज का अंग हैं और उत्पीड़न को हटा रही हैं ''।
