The reforms introduced by the Act afforded no answer , and could afford no answer , to the demand for responsible government , since the Councils set up there under lacked responsibility which was the savour of popular government . इस एक्ट के द्वारा लागू किए गए सुधार जिम्मेदार सरकार की मांग को न तो पूरा करते थे और न ही पूरा कर सकते थे , क्योंकि उसके अधीन स्थापित परिषदों में जिम्मेदारी का अभाव था , जो जन-निर्वाचित सरकार की विशेषता होती है .

Thus the employment opportunities afforded by the coffee industry in its prosperous years may be estimated at about a lakh in number . अनुमानतः कॉफी बागानों में श्रमिकों की आवशऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-यकता चाय श्रमिकों की आपेक्षा आधी होती थी.इस प्रकार कॉफी उद्योग के उतऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-कर्ष के वर्षों में भी अधिकतम श्रमिकों की संख़्या एक लाख के लगभग होती थी .

According to the popular belief , they are a race of men changed into monkeys on account of the help which they had afforded to Rama when making war against the demons ; he is believed to have bequeathed those villages to them as a legacy . ऐसा लोक-विश्वास है कि वे मानवजाति के ही थे लेकिन चूंकि उन्होंने उस समय राम की सहायता की थी जब वे राक्षसों से युद्ध कर रहे थे तो उन्हें वानर जाति में बदल दिया गया था ; यह भी मान्यता है कि राम ने ही उन्हें ये गाव जागीर में दिए थे .

Beyond the Bombay-Poona region , where the soft trap-rock formations were exploited for excavation of chaityas and viharas , further north and north-west , the laterite hills as in Junagad , afforded the venue for such excavations ; laterite when freshly exposed being equally soft and tractable . इस क्षेत्र यानी बंबई तथा पूना के अतिरिक़्त इसके उत्तर तथा पश्चिमोत्तर में जूनागढ़ आदि में भी इस प्रकार के चैत्य तथा विहारों का निर्माण हुआ-कारण वहां भी फंदानुमा कम कठोर मखरैले पत्थर की चट्टानें थीं.मखरैला पत्थर यदि अनावृत्त हो तो वह भी उतना कठोर नहीं होता तथा उसमें कटाई छंटाई सुगम एवं सरल होती है .

The larger oblong mass , longer from front to rear than from side to side , afforded the material for carving out the complex of the main vimana and its axial mandapas , as also two tall and stout freestanding monolithic pillars on either side in front surrounded by an open courtyard formed by trenches on all the sides . शैल का बडऋआ आयताकाकर पुंज , जो इस बाजू तक के बजाय आगे से पीछे तक लंबा ढथा , मुखऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-य विमान और उसके अक्षीय मंडपों का परिसर तराशने के लिए उपयुकऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-त था.साढथ में सामने दोनों पार्शऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-वों पर दो ऊंचे और मोटे खुले खडऋए हुए एकाशऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-मक सऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-तंभ भी हैं , जो सभी दिशाओं में बनी खाऋ से बने एक खुले प्रांगण से घिरे है .
