Some clerodanes like clerodin ( 3-desoxy-caryoptinol ) from the leaves of " Clerodendrum infortunatum " ( Verbenaceae ) have anthelminthic properties, others like ajugarins are repellent to herbivore predators ( mostly insects and their larvae ) or have a very bitter taste, such as gymnocolin.
