During this time, in Europe she was further trained in the field of archaeozoology under Angela von den Driesch of the University of Munich, Germany and Anneke Claassen of the University of Groningen, Netherlands.

There are significant collections of fossils and archaeozoology; a herbarium of about 250, 000 dried specimen; a collection of about 70, 000 specimen of New Zealand birds; significant amphibians, reptiles and mammals.

She then participated, for the first time in 1986, in the conference of the International Council for Archaeozoology ( ICAZ ) in Bordeaux, France and subsequently became a member of ICAZ's International Committee.

These facilities support research by staff and students on stable isotopes and palaeodiet, human remains, anthracology and archaeobotany, archaeozoology, archaeomaterials, lithics and ceramics, experimental archaeology, post-excavation analysis and GIS applications in archaeology.

The research team which has been active at �ukuri�i H�y�k since 2007 is therefore composed of individuals from the following disciplines : archaeology, archaeometallurgy, archaeozoology, archaeobotany, anthropology, climatology and physics as well as paleogeography and geology / mineralogy.

Dr Jillian Garvey is a Registered Cultural Heritage Advisor ( CHA ) with the Office of Aboriginal Affairs Victoria ( OAAV ) and a current member of the Australian Archaeological Association ( AAA ); International Council for Archaeozoology ( ICAZ ); Australasian Quaternary Association ( AQUA ) and The Royal Society of Victoria ( RSV ).

Grants and Awards have been presented to Dr Garvey from the Australian Research Council ( ARC ), Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering ( AINSE ), Kimberley Foundation, La Trobe University ( LTU ) Research Transforming Human Societies and International Council for Archaeozoology and Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies ( AIATSIS ).

Plug held the post of Deputy Director at the Transvaal Museum and was also the Head Curator of the Department of Archaeozoology, until she retired in 1999 . During her career, apart from writing papers and books based on her research which covered Early Stone Age, the Middle Stone Age and the hunter-gatherers of the Later Stone Age, she was also involved in training a large number of students in the field of anthropology, history, archaeology and wildlife from different institutions across the country.
