A beginning was made in 1976 when the Lok Sabha Secretariat set up a Parliamentary Archives of Photographs and Films to preserve an authentic , comprehensive , complete and up-to-date pictorial record of the history of the institution of Parliament , its activities and personalities . इस क्षेत्र में शुरुआत वर्ष 1976 में की गई जब लोक सभा सचिवालय ने संसदीय संस्था के , इसके क्रियाकलापों के और इसकी महान विभूतियों के इतिहास का प्रामाणिक , विस्तृत , पूर्ण एवं अद्यतन चित्रीय रिकार्ड सुरक्षित रखने के लिए फोटो तथा फिल्मों का संसदीय अभिलेखागार स्थापित किया .

The basic aim of the Parliamentary Museum and Archives is to preserve the past and the present for the future by protecting from the ravages of time and neglect all the precious records , historic documents , and articles connected with the Constitution and Parliament and through them to make the history and growth of Parliamentary institutions and the political system better understpod . संसदीय संग्रहालय तथा अभिलेखागार का मूल उद्देश्य यह है कि संविधान तथा संसद से संबंधित वर्तमान काल के और भूतकाल के सभी बहुमूल्य अभिलेखों , ऐतिहासिक दस्तावेजों एवं वस्तुओं को , भावी पीढ़ियों के लिए , समय के साथ साथ और उपेक्षा के कारण नष्ट होने से बचाया जाये ताकि उनसे लोग संसदीय संस्थाओं तथा राजनीतिक प्रणाली के इतिहास और विकास को बेहतर समझ सकें .
