The Ikhwan served the Saudi family well, bringing it one military victory after another. A key turning point came in 1924, when the father of today's Saudi king captured Mecca from the great-great-grandfather of today's Jordanian king. This victory had two major implications. It vanquished the last remaining rival of the Saudis and established the family as the leading force on the Arabian peninsula. And it brought under Saudi control not just another town but the holiest city of Islam and a cosmopolitan urban area that hosted divergent interpretations of Islam. इखवान ने सउदी परिवार की बहुत सेवा की और एक बाद एक सैन्य विजय अभियान किये। 1924 में एक मोड़ आया जब वर्तमान सउदी राजा के पिता ने आज के जार्डन के राजा के परदादा से मक्का छीन लिया। इस विजय के दो परिणाम हुए। इसने सउदियों के अन्तिम स्थापित शत्रु को भी समाप्त कर दिया और अरब प्रायद्वीप पर इस परिवार को अग्रणी शक्ति के रूप में स्थापित कर दिया। इससे सउदी के नियन्त्रण में न केवल एक शहर वरन् इस्लाम का पवित्रतम स्थान आया और ऐसा मिश्रित शहरी क्षेत्र जो इस्लाम की विविधतावादी ब्याख्या करता था।
