From Hillman Peak, the highest point on the rim at elevation 8, 151 feet, the caldera wall drops nearly 2, 000 feet to the surface of the lake.
12.
They form slaggy tongue-shaped flows emanating from various points in the caldera but mainly from the vicinity of the secondary summit and their flow was restricted by the caldera walls.
13.
As the two streams of ice were compressed between the caldera wall and the new lava domes, the ice moved rapidly downhill, much like the squeezing of toothpaste out of a container.
14.
Minor eruptions immediately west and east of Vent Mountain produced a small scoria cone ( Blocky Cone ) and two maar craters ( now water-filled ) along the base of the southeast caldera wall.
15.
The area contains high amounts of volcanic glass; a major eruption is still visible in the form of an elongated glassy lava flow extending off the caldera wall, east of the main rift line.
16.
Non-volcanic rocks are exposed on Santorini at the Profitis Ilias Mountain, Mesa Vouno, the Gavrillos ridge, Pirgos, Monolithos and the inner side of the caldera wall between Cape Plaka and Athinios.
17.
The later lava seems to continue down the caldera wall into the caldera, and this may well be a ring feeder structure similar to the famous backward flow Crater Lake, USA, a ring feeder actually cut through by the caldera fault.
18.
The curved shape of the remnants of this first structure indicates that it suffered a massive flank collapse, scattering the nearby forest lowlands with debris and causing a large part of its southern caldera wall to slide off the mountain, forming an embayment lower on its slopes.
19.
As part of an eroded dyke of the volcano, the Rocks are situated just outside the present day caldera wall about 20 km from Mount Warning and three kilometres from Bundjalung tribe of indigenous Australians who believe the rocks were home to the Nmbngee, or Clever Men.
