On this day, people fast throughout the day for the celebration of SriKrishna's birth in the midnight at 12 0' clock and after the celebrations break their fast by consuming the food offered to the Lord; the fast is broken by taking curd-sweet milk candy early morning the next day also. इस तिथि में दिन भर उपवास कर रात्रि बारह बजे पालने में बालक श्रीकृष्ण का जन्मोत्सव मनाया जाता है उसके उपरांत प्रसाद लेकर उपवास खोलते हैं अथवा अगले दिन प्रात: दही-कलाकन्द का प्रसाद लेकर उपवास खोलते हैं।

He pointed out that while those parts of the city , like Malabar Hill , Walkeshwar , and Breach Candy where the rich lived were well looked after , the poorer areas were very neglected and unhygienic , and witnessed frequent epidemics of small-pox and plague . उन्होंने बताया कि शहर के मालाबार हिल , वाल्केश्वर और ब्रीच कैंडी जैसे अमीर लोगों के इलाकों का अच्छा रख-रखाव किया जाता था जबकि निर्धन क्षेत्र उपेक्षित और अस्वास्थ्यप्रद थे और बार-बार चेचक ओर प्लेग जैसी महामारियों का शिकार होते थे .
