The majority of the specimens fall within the scope of the genera Alcelaphus, Anomalurus, Cephalophus, Cercocebus, Cercopithecus, Colobus, Euoticus, Felis, Gazella, Gorilla, Kobus, Pan, Redunca, Sylvicapra, Syncerus and Tragelaphuse ( number of the specimens exceeds 100 ).

The "'white-eyelid mangabeys "'are African mangabeys, " Lophocebus " and " Rungwecebus ", were once thought to be very closely related to " Cercocebus ", so much so that all the species were placed in one genus.

HIV-2 is less transmittable and is largely confined to West Africa, along with its closest relative, a virus of the sooty mangabey ( " Cercocebus atys atys " ), an Old World monkey inhabiting southern Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and western Ivory Coast.

The riverine forests are used by all eight monkey species which occur in the park, and four of these are never or rarely seen in forests of terra firma ( " Cercopithecus neglectus ", " Miopithecus talapoin ", " Colobus guereza ", " Cercocebus galeritus " ).

This diversity in habitats permits diverse hydrological functions and a rich biodiversity including coastal and marine prawns, shrimps, bivalves and fish, five species of threatened marine turtles and IUCN red-listed African elephant ( Loxodonta africana ), Tana River mangabey ( Cercocebus galeritus ), Tana River red colobus ( Procolobus rufomitratus rufomitratus ) and White-collared Monkey ( Cercopithecus mitis albotorquatus ).

A comparative psychology approach tested six species of captive NHPs ( three species of great apes : orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees, and three species of old-world monkeys : lion-tailed macaques ( " Macaca silenus " ), rhesus macaques and collared mangabeys ( " Cercocebus torquatus " ) ) in a " hide and seek " game in which the NHPs played against a human opponent.
