In this way the relative location of linked genes in a chromosome can be determined . यदि आछ् के बीच का अन्यान्य गमन मान आभ् तथा भ्छ् के बीच के मान के बराबर होगा तो भ् का स्थान आ और छ् के बीच होगा.परंतु यदि यह मान दोनों मानों के अंतर के बराबर है तो भ् का स्थान आ तथा ढ् के मध्य होगा.इस प्रकार , किसी गुणसूत्र में उपस्थित सहलग़्न जीनों के सापेक्ष स्थानों को निर्धारित किया जा सकता है .
