Why do damped oscillations in real life come to a halt when basic damped oscillations studied in physics / differential equations ( such as overdamped, underdamped, and critically damped cases arising from second order linear differential equations with constant coefficients ) model oscillations that go on forever, even if with decreasing amplitude ?
