The blight of caste is not only untouchability and the consequent deification in India of filth ; the blight , in an India that tries to grow , is also the over-all obedience it imposes , its readymade satisfactions , the diminishing of adventurousness , the pushing away from men of individuality and the possibility of excellence . जाति व्यवस्था का अभिशाप सिर्फ अस्पृश्यता और गंदगी को मान्यता ही नहीं है , उसका अभिशाप ( जो भारत में फैल रहा है ) उसकी सर्वव्यापी स्वीकार्यता , उससे उपजने वाल संतुष्टि-भाव और दुस्साहसिक कार्यों की संभावना का क्षीण होना है.यह आदमी को उसकी निजता और उन्नति की संभावना से दूर कर देती है .

Beyond this basic point, I believe that negotiating with Iran on the basis of sound negotiating principles, and in the context of attacks on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, has a good chance of improving the situation we currently face. I negotiated with high level Iranians for five years, between 1985 and 1990, and I found them to be difficult but serious, and my negotiations succeeded in bringing about several sound agreements with which Iran complied. The venomous and threatening statements of some Iranian leaders should not prevent the US from testing Iran's willingness to respond to a sound diplomatic posture, and if we are successful in diminishing the stature of the IRGC as well as demonstrating that engagement with the US can be fruitful, the people with whom we will be dealing in Iran may well be different ones from those we currently face. सोयफर अपेक्षा करते हैं कि एक साथ सीधे सामना और बातचीत करने से तेहरान पर दबाव पडेगा और वह सामान्य रूप से अपने व्यवहार में ( विशेष रूप से आतंकवाद के विषय में) परिवर्तन कर देगा और सम्भवतः इससे वह अपना परमाणु कार्यक्रम रोक देगा परंतु साथ ही यदि सभी विकल्प असफल सिद्ध हों तो अपनी ओर से पहले आक्रमण को भी खुला रखा जाये।

But preventing people from crossing borders is very much on the agenda; it is probably only a matter of time until other Western states follow Spain and Australia and resort to military force. Giant smuggling rings and human waves cascading over fortified positions represent the starkest manifestations of profound and growing dilemmas: how islands of peace and plenty survive in an ocean of war and deprivation, how a diminishing European population retains its historic culture, and how states from Turkey to Mali to Mexico solve their problems rather than export them. यूरोप के लोग इस मामले में बेनकाब हो गए हैं उन्होंने अपनी बहुलतावादी संस्कृति को मानों पोंछ डाला है जैसा कि कोफी अन्नान का वक्तव्य है… “..महत्वपूर्ण यह है कि हमें लोगों को सीमायें पार करने से रोकने का व्यर्थ प्रयास नहीं करना चाहिए ..इसका कोई लाभ नहीं है .” लेकिन लोगों को सीमायें पार करने से रोकना काफी कुछ एजेन्डे में है. यह केवल कुछ समय की बात है कि जब अन्य पश्चिमी देश भी स्पेन तथा ऑस्ट्रेलिया की भांति सैन्य शक्ति के प्रयोग से यह कार्य करेंगें.
