The locomotive is now used on the " Green time table " service which otherwise calls for the double heading of NA class locos on one of the trips, enabling its greater hauling capacity to substitute for the two NAs.

With steam traction a single very powerful and expensive locomotive was required for the heaviest trains or the operator resorted to double heading with multiple locomotives and crews, a method which was also expensive and brought with it its own operating difficulties.

Then on the Sunday of the same week 11 August, 44932 was given the honours of double heading once again with sister 45231 but she was this time tucked inside behind her sister . 44932 was covering for the unavailable 44781 which sadly didn't survive to preservation and it was suggested that she was renumbered for the occasion as 44781, but this sadly didn't happen . 45231 & 44932 were working the Carlisle to Longsight leg of The Railway Touring Company's " Fifteen Guinea Special " 45th anniversary train.

Then on the Sunday of the same week, 11 August ( The final day of regular steam on British Railways in 1968 ), 45231 was given the honours of double heading once again with sister 44932 but she was this time acting as pilot engine and got to wear the 1T57 Headboard for the occasion & also for the trip her " Sherwood Forester " nameplates were removed as the majority of Black 5's in BR days apart from 5 didn't have nameplates fitted . 45231 & 44932 worked the Carlisle to Manchester via Hellifield & Darwen leg of The Railway Touring Company's " Fifteen Guinea Special " 45th anniversary train.
