The Pakistan military has nurtured the myth that the forces in East Pakistan were n't defeated , they were betrayed into surrendering - variations of this myth resurfaced during the Kargil war . पाकिस्तानी फौज ने यह मिथक रचा था कि वह पूर्वी पाकिस्तान में हारी नहीं , बल्कि गद्दारी के वजह से आत्मसमर्पण को मजबूर ही.करगिल युद्ध के दौरान भी ऐसा ही मिथक गढ गया .

The army action in East Pakistan , wrote Ikram Sahgal , editor of Pakistan 's Defence Journal in March 1998 , ” was professionally correct and it was carried out with surgical precision . . . पाकिस्तान की ड़िफेंस जर्नल के संपादक इकराम सहगल ने मार्च 1998 में लिखा कि पूर्वी पाकिस्तान में फौजी कार्रवाई ' ' पेशेवराना नजरिए से सही थी और इसे भत सफाई से अंजाम दिया गया .

On the contrary , some of the displaced persons from Bangladesh -LRB- East Pakistan -RRB- are still hovering around Calcutta , Howrah Bridge and Dandakaranya , in search of livelihood and their condition is very miserable as they do not seem to have completely recovered from the shock of the partition of the country . ठीक इसके विपरीत बंग्लादेश ( पूर्वी बंगाल ) से आए विस्थापितों में से कुछ लोग आज भी कलकत्ता , हावड़ा पुल व दंडकारण्य के बीच रोजी-रोटी तथा आश्रय की तलाश में भटक रहे हैं और उनकी स्थिति अत्यंत दयनीय है क्योंकि अभी तक देश के विभाजन के सदमे से वे अपने को मुक्त नहीं कर सके हैं .

In its report , suppressed by all governments since 1974 , and now in the possession of INDIA TODAY , the commission , headed by then chief justice of Pakistan Hamoodur Rahman , held widespread atrocities , other abuses of power by Pakistani generals and a complete failure in civilian and martial-law leadership responsible for the loss of East Pakistan . पाकिस्तान के तत्कालीन मुय न्यायाधीश हमूद-उर- रहमान के नेतृत्व वाले इस आयोग की रिपोर्ट को 1974 के बाद बनी सभी सरकारों ने दबाए रखा.इसमें कहा गया है कि पूर्वी पाकिस्तान गंवाने की वजहें ये हैं- बड़ै पैमाने पर ज्यादतियां , पाकिस्तानी जनरलं द्वारा ताकत का गलत इस्तेमाल और तानाशाही नेतृत्व की नाकामी .
