He was professor of general chemistry and physics at the National College of Pharmacy, from 1892 to 1910; president of the American Chemical Society in 1906; and in 1908 he became editor of the " Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry ".

Lyman Hall's other goals included enlarging Tech and attracting more students, so he expanded the school's offerings beyond mechanical engineering; the new degrees introduced during Hall's administration included electrical engineering and civil engineering in December 1896, textile engineering in February 1899, and engineering chemistry in January 1901.

Houdry's contributions to catalytic technology were recognized by numerous awards, including the Potts Medal of the Franklin Institute in 1948, the Perkin Medal of the Society of Chemical Industry ( American Section ) in 1948, the E . V . Murphree Award in Industrial and Engineering Chemistry of the American Chemical Society in 1962, and posthumous election to the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 1990.

Roy Memorial Lecture ( 2008 ) of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers are some of the notable ones . and the Maharashtra Academy of Sciences elected him as their fellow in 2003 and the Indian National Science Academy and Institution of Chemical Engineers followed suit in 2007 . " Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research ", the official journal of the American Chemical Society, published a Festschrift editorial on him in its December 2014 issue.
