It is bounded inferiorly and anteriorly by the sharp concave margin of the uncinate process of the ethmoid bone, superiorly by the ethmoidal bulla, and posteriorly by the inferior nasal concha.

The first step in this procedure is an uncinectomy ( also known as infundibulotomy ), which is an incision given to the uncinate process of ethmoid bone and removal of the same.

Olfactory nerves and fibers transmit information about odors from the peripheral olfactory system to the central olfactory system of the brain, which is separated from the epithelium by the cribriform plate of the ethmoid bone.

The anterior ethmoidal nerve then continues into the cranial cavity at the side of the cribiform plate of the ethmoid bone, sends sensory fibers to the meninges, and then enters the nasal cavity via the nasal slit.

The internal roof of the nose is composed by the horizontal, perforated cribriform plate ( of the ethmoid bone ) through which pass sensory filaments of the olfactory nerve ( "'Cranial nerve I "'); finally, below and behind ( posteroinferior ) the cribriform plate, sloping down at an angle, is the bony face of the sphenoid sinus.

The sphenoidal conchae are each developed from a center that makes its appearance about the fifth month; at birth they consist of small triangular laminae, and it is not until the third year that they become hollowed out and coneshaped; about the fourth year they fuse with the labyrinths of the ethmoid bone, and between the ninth and twelfth years they unite with the sphenoid bone.
