In the southern most part of delta, due to approach of the salt water of sea, this region is lower, salty and marshy and this region is filled with the easily grown mangrove species of forests. डेल्टा के सुदूर दक्षिणी भाग में समुद्र का खारा पानी पहुँचने का कारण यह भाग नीचा नमकीन एवं दलदली है तथा यहाँ आसानी से पनपने वाले मैंग्रोव जाति के वनों से भरा पड़ा है।

When the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests -LRB- MOEF -RRB- took a milestone decision in July last year to bring a range of marine species -LRB- an often ignored section -RRB- under the Wildlife Protection Act -LRB- WPA -RRB- 1972 , including several types of sharks and even molluscs -LRB- shells -RRB- , conservationists like Kulkarni rejoiced . पिछले साल जुलई में जब केंद्रीय पर्यावरण एवं वन मंत्रालय ने शार्क और घोंघे समेत कई समुद्री जीवों को ( जिनकी अक्सर अनदेखी की जाती रही ) 1972 के वन्यजीव संरक्षण कानून ( वसंका ) के तहत लने का महत्वपूर्ण फैसल किया तो कुलकर्णी सरीखे संरक्षणवादी खुश हे थे .
