These comments point to Palestinian appreciation for the benefits of elections, rule of law, minority rights, freedom of speech, and a higher standard of living. Amid all the PA's political extremism and terrorism, it is good to know that a Palestinian constituency also exists for normality. Unfortunately, it remains a furtive constituency with little political sway. The time has come for decent Palestinians to make their voices heard and state that Israel's existence is not the problem but the solution. Coups d'état have changed : On the evening of July 22, 1952, Col. Gamal Abdul Nasser told Anwar el-Sadat to come to Cairo from Sinai. But Sadat took in a movie with his family and nearly missed the overthrow of the monarchy. This anecdote points to two huge changes: First, the overthrows are now part of a national catharsis, as opposed to the obscure and furtive effort back then. Second, it's now the top military figures who remove the head of state and not hot-headed junior officers. Put differently, Egypt in 2011 entered the more sophisticated arena of the Turkish-style coup d'état, three out of four of which were carried out by heads of the military, not lesser officers. तख्ता पलट का स्वभाव बदल गया है: 22 जुलाई , 1952 को कर्नल गमाल अब्दुल नसीर ने अनवर अल सादात से कहा कि वे सिनाय से काइरो आ जायें । परंतु सादात अपने परिवार के साथ फिल्म देखने लगे और लगभग राजशाही के तख्तापलट से चूक गये। इस उदाहरण से दो प्रमुख परिवर्तन का पता चलता है। पहला, पूर्व में तख्ता पलट अस्पष्ट और गोपनीय होता था और अब तख्ता पलट राष्ट्रीय स्वीकृति प्राप्त कर चुका है। दूसरा, अब सेना के सर्वोच्च अधिकारी राज्य प्रमुख को पद से हटाते हैं न कि गुस्से में आये कनिष्ठ अधिकारी। इसे अगर दूसरे रूप में लें तो मिस्र 2011 में तुर्की के तरीके के अत्याधुनिक तख्ता पलट के स्वरूप को प्राप्त कर गया है, जिसमें कि चार में से तीन तो सेना के सर्वोच्च अधिकारी द्वारा किया गया है न कि निचले अधिकारियों द्वारा।
