The scenery along the way featured ice in all of its beautiful and treacherous forms : a thick, solid layer of chunks of frozen snow built up behind a tree that had fallen across Johns Brook; blue, glazed ice coating the trail near the peak; and a greenish-hued frozen cascade tumbling over a tall rock face.
