The proposal met with generous support, and a beautiful altar tomb with recumbent effigy in alabaster from the designs of F . A . Walters, F . S . A ., has now been erected on the Gospel side of the sanctuary.

In the Monastery of Santa Maria de La Santa Espina, located in the province of Valladolid, near the altarpiece, on the Gospel side, is placed a statue depicting praying the Infanta Sancha Raim�ndez, made of alabaster, although the infant was not buried there.

An Ikon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, prepared especially for St . Peter's in a monastery in Greece, and donated to us a number of years ago by an Orthodox friend and supporter, hangs on the rear wall of the cathedral, on the Gospel side.

In Anglican practice, the cathedra tends to be placed to one side in the choir, although in more contemporary practice, it is commonly placed on the gospel side of the chancel ( i . e ., to the left of the altar, as one looks at it from the front ).

The lower 11 statues in niche's are carved in the High Gothic style : they represent Christ in the center, flanked by Mary and Elizabeth, while the prophets Samuel, Elijah, Isaiah and Ezekiel stand in pairs on the Gospel side, and the evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke and John stand in pairs on the Epistle side.

While the cantoris side of the " choir " corresponds to the Gospel side of the " altar " ( so called from the custom of reading the Epistle from the south end of the altar, and the Gospel from the north end of the altar ), cantoris and decani properly refer only to sides of the choir, not to the sides of the altar.
