Located within the ventrolateral caudal, these networks include the retrotrapezoid nucleus / parafacial respiratory group complex ( RTN / pFRG ), the B�tzinger complex, the pre-B�tzinger complex ( pre-B�tC ), the rostral ventral respiratory group ( rVRG ), and the caudal VRG ( cVRG ).

The retaining face of the terrace runs immediately to the north of the main North Group complex on the western half of Terrace 7 for, at the eastern extreme of this section it turns north above Terrace 8 for before changing to run another east, limiting Terrace 8 on its west and north sides.
