There may be some hereditary baronetcies, baronies, marquessates, earldoms, or viscountcies that are hereditable by females in their own right ( I very much doubt it ever applied to dukedoms )-but if so, their husbands have no special title.

Many cite the abolition act of 1660 as a contradictory item, but the previous stated judgment makes it clear : " The rest ceased to exist as feudal baronies by tenure, becoming baronies in free socage, that is to say under a " free " ( hereditable ) contract requiring payment of monetary rents . " The law is silent on this but taking the judgment at face value states they exist still as " free socage ".
