:There are a million technical reasons why they couldn't do this, for example Mir's communications system would probably not work from lunar orbit, and the attitude determination system used Earth horizon sensors which would probably not work in lunar orbit either, and your SSME-sized engine would produce accelerations and vibrations that would tear Mir to pieces.
