The event has been organised every year since 2003, and is sponsored by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and the CII ( Confederation of Indian Industry ), initially sponsored by FICCI.

The "'Pravasi Bharatiya Samman "'( "'Overseas Indian Honour / Award "') is an award constituted by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Government of India in conjunction with the " Pravasi Bharatiya Divas " ( Non-Resident Indian Day ), to honour exceptional and meritorious contribution in their chosen field / profession.

The "'Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre "'( "'OIFC "') is a not for profit public-private initiative of Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs ( MOIA ) and Confederation of Indian Industry ( CII ) established in 2007 providing investment know-how and business facilitation services to Non-Resident Indian and Person of Indian Origin, with the active support of its Knowledge Partners, which are firms specialising in the areas of foreign investment consulting, regulatory approvals, market research, joint venture partner identification, project financing, accounting, taxation, legal and portfolio investments.
