The changes between the MG engine ( taken directly from the Mini Cooper ) and the standard 1275 included a modified cylinder head, with larger valves and improved porting, altered nitrided steel and sodium-cooled exhaust valves.

All versions are available in two finishes : a standard black finish featuring a dark colored / nitrided slide and matte black frame or a two-tone finish featuring a silver colored stainless steel slide and matte black frame.

Plasma nitriding can thus be performed in a broad temperature range, from 260 �C to more than 600 �C . For instance, at moderate temperatures ( like 420 �C ), stainless steels can be nitrided without the formation of chromium nitride precipitates and hence maintaining their corrosion resistance properties.
