Before this in 1930 Poet Iqubal had demanded a seprate nation comprising of Four provinces of north western India namely- Sind, Baluchistan, Punjab and Afgan(Suba-E-Sarhad). इसके पहले सन् 1930 में शायर मुहम्मद इक़बाल ने भारत के उत्तर-पश्चिमी चार प्रान्तों -सिन्ध बलूचिस्तान पंजाब तथा अफ़गान (सूबा-ए-सरहद)- को मिलाकर एक अलग राष्ट्र की मांग की थी ।

The Bengal-Assam Railway and North Western Railway were divided between India and Pakistan and , in the midst of this dismemberment , they were called upon to cope with the unprecedented migration of refugees across the borders . बंगाल , असम रेलवे , और उत्तरी पश्चिमी रेलवे भारत और पाकिस्तान में विभाजित हो गयी Zथी और इस विभाजन के दौरान ही , दोनों देशों की सीमाओं के आर पार से शरणार्थियों के अभूतपूर्व पारगमन का भार भी रेलवे पर ही आ गया .
