Simmons assigned " Tatisaurus " to the Hypsilophodontidae, though this group was seen by him as an evolutionary grade of " primitive " Ornithopoda, ancestral to several ornithischian groups; he felt that " Tatisaurus "'s affinities were with " Scelidosaurus " or the Ankylosauria.
