In speaking about all this , Badruddin pointed out that the whole rigid and elaborate purdah system was founded on the few generalities in the Quran , where women were told not to flaunt their beauty before man . इन सब बातों का जिक्र करते हुए बदरूद्दीन ने स्पष्ट किया कि यह सख़्त और विस्तृत पर्दा प्रथा कुरान में चर्चित कुछ सामान्य बातों पर आधारित थी , जिनके अंतगर्त महिलाओं को पुरूषों के सामने अपने सौदर्य की भडकीली नुमाइश को मना किया गया था .

It was strange that while , on the one hand , he was trying to persuade them to give up purdah and other outdated customs , he was at the same time trying to protect their feelings from being outraged by open criticism from other communities . यह विचित्र बात है कि एक ओर तो वह उनऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-हें पर्दा और ऐसी अनऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-य दकियानूसी प्रथाओं को छोडऋने के लिए राजी करने का प्रयास कर रहे थे और इसके साथ ही वह उनकी भावनाओं को अनऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-य समुदायों द्वारा खुली आलोचना के आघात से बचाने की भी कोशिश कर रहे थे .

Other apologetics are more consequential. What Muhammad did for women, viewers learn, was “amazing” - his condemning female infanticide, giving legal rights to wives, permitting divorce and protecting their inheritance rights. But no commentator is so impolite as to note that however admirable this was in the 7th century, Muslim women today suffer widely from genital mutilation, forced marriages, purdah, illiteracy, sexual apartheid, polygamy and honor killings. दर्शकों को बताने का प्रयास किया जा रहा है कि मोहम्मद ने महिला भ्रूण हत्या का विरोध किया, महिलाओं को अधिकार दिलाया ,पत्नी को तलाक का अधिकार दिलवाया लेकिन किसी को वक्तताओं से विनम्रता पूर्वक यह पूछना चाहिए कि 7वीं शताब्दी में यह कितना भी प्रशंसनीय रहा हो वर्तमान में मुस्लिम महिलायें व्यापक पैमाने पर खतना, जबरन विवाह , पर्दा, अशिक्षा, लैंगिक भेदभाव, बहुविवाह और सम्मान के लिये मृत्यु से बड़े पैमाने पर घिरी हुई हैं।

On the other hand , he thought that English table-manners were aesthetic and hygienic , and he took to them at a time when many Muslims considered it irreligious to use a knife and fork . As far as the more important questions of purdah and other domestic customs were concerned , there too , he openly asserted that the customs had nothing to do with true Islam , and set an example by insisting that his wife and daughters should not avoid social contact with men . दूसरी ओर , उनका विचार था कि खाने की मेज पर अंग्रेजी शिष्टाचार सुरूचिपूर्ण और साफ-सुथरे थे और उन्हें उस समय उन्होंने अपनाया जब बहुत से मुसलमान छुरी और कांटे का इस्तेमाल विधर्मी मानते थें1 जहां तक पर्दा और अन्य घरेलू रिवाजों का प्रश्न था , उन मामलों पर भी उन्होंने खुल्लमखुल्ला दावा किया कि असली इस्लाम से रिवाजों का कोई लेना-देना नहीं है और यह आग्रह कर एक उदाहरण स्थापित किया कि उनकी पत्नी और पुत्रियों को पुरूषों के साथ सामाजिक संपर्क से दूर नहीं रहना चाहिए .
