Indeed, Muslims generally believe female desire to be so much greater than the male equivalent that the woman is viewed as the hunter and the man as her passive victim. If believers feel little distress about sex acts as such, they are obsessed with the dangers posed by women. So strong are her needs thought to be, she ends up representing the forces of unreason and disorder. A woman's rampant desires and irresistible attractiveness gives her a power over men that even rivals God's. She must be contained, for her unbridled sexuality poses a direct danger to the social order. (Symbolic of this, the Arabic word fitna means both civil disorder and beautiful woman .) पुरानी परंपराओं की प्रतिष्ठा वाले मुसलमानों के संबंध में यह व्यंग्य ही है कि इस्लामी सभ्यता न केवल महिलाओं को आकांक्षा रखने वाली के रुप में चित्रित करती है वरन् पुरुषों से अधिक जुनूनी मानती है .निश्चित रुप से इसी समझ ने परंपरागत मुस्लिम जीवन में महिलाओं का स्थान निर्धारित किया है .

The repression that followed spurred yet more anger at the authorities. इस्लामवादी लक्ष्यों के प्रति एक बार फिर जोर देने से शासन के प्रति लोग अलग थलग होते जा रहे हैं जिसमें कि इस्लाम के प्रति आस्था से सेक्युलरिज्म की ओर घुमाव मह्त्वपूर्ण है। देश में पैथोलोजी का बढना, नशीली दवाओं का बढना, अश्लीलता और पोर्नोग्राफी सहित वेश्यावृत्ति की वृद्धि ने इस समस्या को और बढा दिया है। जून 2009 के छलपूर्ण चुनाव के बाद शासन के विरुद्ध हुए प्रदर्शनों ने लोगों के अलग थलग होने के भाव को ही व्यक्त किया है। इस दौरान इस प्रदर्शनों को दबाने के लिये जो शक्ति प्रयोग हुआ उससे अधिकरियों के विरुद्ध और आक्रोश ही बढा।
