Beetles range in size from 0.25 mm to over 15 cm and are brown , black , red or yellow or bright and shiny metallici-blue or coppery-red and very often beautifully spotted and marked , bare , or clothed with scales or woolly hairs and spines . भृंगों का आकार 0.25 मि.मी . से लेकर 15 से.मी . तक होता है.जहां तक रंग का सवाल है , ये भूरे , काले , लाल या पीले या चटकीले और चमकीले धात्विक-नीले या तांबे जैसे लाल होते हैं.शरीर पर बहुधा सुंदर धब्बे या चिह्न होते हैं और या तो शरीर पर कुछ भी नहीं होता अथवा यह शल्क या ऊनी रोम और कंटकों से ढका रहता है .
