Qin Guan's book " Can Shu " ( Book of Sericulture ) of 1090 described a silk-reeling machine with an oscillating'proto-flyer', as the apparatus of the main reel of which the silk is bound is wound and powered by treadle motion . and again a more elaborate illustration was provided in a 17th-century book.
