These were machine tools , machinery manufacture in respect of cotton textiles , tea and oil-processing industries , electrical equipment , hydrogenated oil -LRB- vanaspati -RRB- manufacturing , power alcohol , synthetic resin and plastic industries . इनमें मुख़्य थे मशीनों के उपकरण सूती वस्त्र उद्योग के संबंध में बनायी गयी मशीनरी , चाय और तेल उत्पादन के उद्योग , विद्युत उपकरण , वनस्पति तेल उत्पादन , अल्कोहल शक़्ति , सिंथेटिक रेसिन और प्लास्टिक उद्योग .

Sunderlal Bahuguna , the founder of the renowned ' Chipko ' movement has described this as thus : ” The clear-felling of the forests for apple cultivation and apple packing cases , the reckless resin tapping of the chir pines and the construction of motorable roads in the hillsare all taking a heavy toll of the Himalayan forest cover . विख्यात चिपको आन्दोलन के जनक सुंदरलाल बहुगुणा ने इसकी इस प्रकार से व्याख्या की है ; ” सेब की खेती तथा उनकी पैकिंग के लिए डिब्बे तैयार करने के लिए वनों की कटाई , चीड़ और देवदारू के वनों से अंधाधुंध राल निकालने और पहाड़ी क्षेत्रों में मोटर वाहनों के लिए सड़कों का निर्माण-इन सभी से हिमालय के वनों का काफी विनाश हो रहा है .
