A crane will lift in place a retaining cap of pipes to prevent further damage to part of the quake-damaged exterior of the Basilica of St . Francis of Assisi, a church spokesman said Wednesday.

Experts came up with this plan for the roof-protection strategy : a huge crane was to lift another crane weighing 42 tons to which the retaining cap is attached over the convent connected to the church and lower it gently on the other side.
