According to park officials, the Solitario is considered a " geological oddity " for three principal reasons : it is one of the world's largest and most symmetrical molten-rock domes; it is one of the few such geological structures to have actually erupted and it exposes remnants of an ancient Texas mountain range not visible anywhere else.
