The Mahishamardini cave- temple contains on the two side walls of its mandapa two of the most celebrated and famous Pallava sculptures , namely , Durga as Mahishasuramardini , mounted on a leaping lion and battling with Mahishasura and his hordes on the north , and Vishnu as Anantasayin in yoga-nidra , or contemplative sleep , on a serpent- couch on the south . महिषमर्दिनी गुफा मंदिर में उसके मंडप की दो पार्श्व भ्Lत्तियों पर दो अत्यधिक यशस्वी और प्रसिद्ध पल्लव मूर्तियां हैं , यथा , उत्तर की दीवार पर महिषासुर और उसकी सेना से युद्धारत सिंहारूढ़ महिषासुरमर्दिनी के रूप में दूर्गा और दक्षिणी दीवार पर शेषनाग पर लेटे योगनिद्रा में अनंतशायी विष्णु .

In forward alignment with its two linear side walls are two rows of four pillars each inside the antarala-mandapa dividing the space into a central nave with a raised flat clerestory roof and two lateral aisles with lower slopy slab roofs projected over the still lower slopy roof of the outer circuit . इसकी दो रैखिक पार्श्व दीवारों क साथ आगे की और संगति में अतंराल मंडप के भीतर चार चार स्तंभों की दो पंक़्तियां हैं जो उस स्थान को एक केंद्रीय नाभि के रूप में विभाजित करती है , जिस पर एक सपाट रोशनदानी Zछत है और नीची ढलवां प्रस्तर पट्ट निर्मित छतों सहित दो पार्श्व वीथियां हैं , जो बाहरी परिक्रमा की और भी नीची ढलवां छत के उपर हैं .
