Fayalite forms solid solution series with the magnesium olivine endmember forsterite ( Mg 2 SiO 4 ) and also with the manganese rich olivine endmember tephroite ( Mn 2 SiO 4 ).
12.
Olivine gives its name to the group of minerals with a related structure ( the "'olivine group "') which includes tephroite ( CaMgSiO 4 ) and kirschsteinite ( CaFeSiO 4 ).
13.
It has been found in association with barite, barysilite, calcite, copper, franklinite, garnet, glaucochroite, hausmannite, jerrygibbsite, manganosite, pyrochroite, rhodochrosite, sonolite, spessartine, sussexite, tephroite, vesuvianite, willemite, and zincite.
