As a mirror , lustrous by nature but stained by dust , shines when it is cleaned , so the embodied one , on seeing clearly the nature of the Self , becomes one with his purpose achieved , and freed from sorrow . ऋस तरह वह दर्पण , ऋसमें चमक तो हो , पर धूल से गंदला हो गया हो,साफ कर दिये जाने पर चमक उठता है , इसी तरह मनुषऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-य आतऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-मा के सऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-वरूप को साफ देख लेने के पशऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-चात अपने उपलबऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-ध लक्षऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-य के साथ एकाकार हो जाता है तथा दुखों से मुकऋ-ऊण्श्छ्ष्-त हो जाता है .

In the Chandogya Upanishad , Prajapati answering Indra 's question points out to him the characteristics by which the true self or atma can be recognised : “ The self which is free from sin , old age , death , pain , hunger and thirst , which desires what it should desire and thinks what it should think ; that self we must try to know . ” “ छांदोग़्य उपनिषद् में , प्रजाZपति इंद्र के प्रश्नों के उत्तर देते हुए उन लक्षणो की ओर संकेत किया गया है , जिनके द्वारा सही अर्थो में स्व या आत्मा की पहचाना जा सके . ” आत्मा जो पाप , वृद्धावस्था , मृत्यु , पीड़ी , भूख और प्यास मुक़्त है , जो इच्छा करती है कि उसे क़्या इच्छा करनी चाहिए और सोचती है कि उसे क़्या सोचना चाहिए ; उस आत्मा को हमे अवश्य जानने के प्रयत्न करना चाहिए .
